First home buyer grant, made simple

The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is a one-time payment to help people buy or build their first home to live in.

The grant gives $10,000.

If two people buy a home together, they can only get one grant, not two.

Some conditions must be met in order to receive the grant, which we can easily discuss over a quick phone call.

The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) does not depend on how much money you make, so your income won’t affect whether you can get it.

To be eligible:

  • You must be 18 years or older when you apply. If you're younger, you might be able to get special permission.

  • At least one person applying must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

  • You must own the land and house in your name and you need to live in the home.

You cannot get the grant if:

  • You or your partner have already received the FHOG before.

  • You owned a home in Australia before July 1, 2000.

  • You owned and lived in a home in Australia between July 1, 2000, and July 1, 2004.

  • You owned and lived in a home in Australia for at least six months after July 1, 2004.
